Sameer Nair, Vice-President, Programming, Star TV, says a movie helps you check out what you were like two years ago. He''s right. The man whose star he has helped rescue, 58-year-old Amitabh Bachchan, starred in what was supposed to be the biggest film of the year: Aditya Chopra''s Mohabbatein. Only by the time it was released, Bachchan had already became a phenomenon all over again with Kaun Banega Crorepati in July. Nair who worked closely with Bachchan on the top-rated TV show, which has changed the fortunes of both Star TV and its CEO Peter Mukerjea, cast Bachchan when he was supposed to be a goner. But with friend (and self-described younger brother) Amar Singh helping pay his ABCL dues to DD, and the re-launch of ABCorp, even the blip of son Abhishek''s somewhat tepid debut was nothing compared to seeing himself in wax at Madame Tussaud''s.
